Community Liaison Officer

Position Summary To increase health and wellbeing awareness and outcomes in the community due to increased community engagement with Gidgee Healing’s high-quality primary health care services in Mount Isa. Functional accountabilities of this role include: • Developing and implementing local community engagement strategies to actively increase awareness, access to, and uptake of health services. • Planning and Health promotion. • Operational processes and administration. Selection Criteria • Certificate III or above in Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care – Community Care or equivalent preferred, or preparedness to undertake relevant VET Training. • Previous work experience in Healthy Lifestyle or similar Health or Community engagement/development programs in the health or community sector. • A sound knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organizations in the service area. • Demonstrated ability to take direction, determine priorities and manage workloads to meet agreed timelines and objectives. • Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders, respecting traditional culture, values, and ways of doing business. • The ability to work with other health professionals and organisations. • Demonstrated understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. • Demonstrated ability to utilize community development processes and to network and work collaboratively with a wide range of community members, families, carers, and organisations. • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate engagement/ promotion programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander target groups in the target area. • Demonstrated competence in the use of Business technology and desktop applications (e.g., internet, word, spreadsheet and database packages). • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • A local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, with established connections to the region. Position Summary The purpose of the Transport Officer is to ensure the clinic is accessible for members of the community through the provision of quality transport services and to support the delivery of high-quality primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Mount Isa. Functional accountabilities of this role include: • Assisting patients with transport to and from clinic appointments; • Assisting with vehicle maintenance; • Delivery of pre-packaged medications to clients; • General transport administration support. Selection Criteria • A valid driver’s license with demonstrated driving experience, including knowledge, and understanding of road rules. • Experience in people transportation and demonstrated skills in vehicle maintenance procedures. • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritise duties including effective time management skills and the ability to work in a team environment. • Demonstrated ability to identify and prioritise patients in need of medical attention, with the support of the clinical team • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues, particularly in the health area which are affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Also, this ACCHS provides a broad range of primary health care and aged care services and is now the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service provider by land area in Queensland. The Aged Care Connector (ACC) has the primary responsibility of connecting with local Elders, older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families to raise awareness of their aged care entitlements. The overarching function of the AAC is to ensure that support for clients is organised, sequenced, and supported to enable effective access to appropriate aged care services both internal and external to the ACCHO. Working closely with the Aged Care Support Coordinator, the ACC will help determine the level of local demand for aged care services, identify existing aged care services, any service gaps in the area and continue advocacy work with clients as required. Suicide Prevention Network Coordinator

The Suicide Prevention Network Coordinator of the Community-Controlled Suicide Prevention Network (CCSPN) supports local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities to improve access to culturally safe and appropriate suicide prevention services. In partnership with community you will coordinate, co-design and advocate for funding and the development of a Network Suicide Prevention Plan. In partnership with stakeholders, Community leaders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led whole-of-population suicide prevention services, you will evaluate and monitor activities, identify, resolve, and report on the barriers to accessing suicide prevention and social and emotional wellbeing services.
