Gidgee Healing has been delivering essential services to the Normanton community since 2014. More than 90% of our team live locally and 75% identify as Indigenous. That means when you visit our clinic, you’ll receive support from people who understand your needs, with a range of free-to-access services that are bulk-billed through Medicare so you don’t have to worry about costs. We can also provide transport to and from the clinic if needed. Just speak to our receptionist when you book an appointment.

“It is an absolute privilege to serve the Normanton community. The advice and guidance we receive from staff and community members allows us to deliver culturally safe care across a range of services and it’s making a real difference to people’s lives.”  Renee Blackman, Gidgee Healing CEO.

Yarning from the heart with Fred Pascoe

Fred Pascoe is a Kurtijar man. Growing up in the Normanton area has taught him some valuable lessons about overcoming challenges. Gidgee Healing caught up with Fred for a yarn about the community and life in the Gulf.

Gidgee Healing Normanton has two full time General practitioners (GPs) available for consultation Monday to Friday. They treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment. Our GPs focus on your whole-person health, combining physical, psychological and social wellbeing to achieve the best outcomes.

Eating a healthy, balanced diet can help you maintain a healthy weight and avoid or manage chronic disease. Gidgee Dieticians can help you make good food choices by understanding portion sizes, great recipe ideas and what to cook for the family. They’ll also talk to you about chronic conditions such as diabetes and kidney disease, so you can improve your long-term wellbeing and live a healthier life.

Eye Health

An eye test can identify eye health problems long before you notice any symptoms. And many of these conditions can be successfully treated if found early enough. Regular eye tests mean that our Optometrists can identify the early signs and provide effective treatment. We can also help manage existing conditions and give you practical advice to protect the long term health of your eyes.

Our Podiatrists can help with a range of foot treatments, from day-to-day conditions to more serious problems. This includes ingrown toenails, corns and calluses, bunions, blisters, gout and complications caused by chronic disease. They work closely with GPs and Dieticians to ensure you receive the best support and can help prevent and correct deformities, keep you mobile and relieve pain.

Exercise Physiology

Gidgee’s Exercise Physiologists are there to help you with the prevention and management of chronic disease, injury and disability. You might see an Exercise Physiologist to help you improve overall health and wellbeing, overcome persisting pain caused by injury or overuse, or improve your physical fitness. Working closely with your GP, they can help control your diabetes, allow you to be more independent and can speed up your recovery from injury.

Child & Antenatal Care

The family and child health team specialises in maternal, child and family health, with a strong focus on cultural values. We can assess your child’s reflexes, cognition, behaviour, hearing, vision and brain development. We also take care of parents, with mum and dad health checks, family support clinics, diabetes education and cervical screenings. Getting to the clinic can be hard with kids, so we provide transport to and from your appointment and can visit you at home if that’s easier.

Speech therapy

Gidgee’s speech therapists use culturally safe techniques to asses and treat communication problems and speech disorders. They will give you or your child the tools to deal with speech challenges more effectively and allow you to communicate more effectively.

The Normanton Recovery Centre offers a range of treatment programs for people struggling with addiction, helping them live a sober, healthy and happy lifestyle. Our services are designed to align with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts of social and emotional wellbeing and focus on six key areas. They are Personal Wellbeing, Social and Family Wellbeing, Healthy Lifestyle Choices and Balance, Connecting to Community, Connecting to Country, and Education and Employment.
